Bamboo Skateboards was delighted to attend the 2nd Annual Iron Mike Festival this past weekend at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach, CA.
The festival honors Mike Mckay, a young Solana Beach lifeguard who passed away in 2008. Mike touched many people’s lives through his work as a lifeguard and his passion for the outdoors.
The event is organized by RERIP, a non-profit organization spearheading a movement to recycle old surfboards and create a community of surfers who “re-rip” each other’s boards. The Iron Mike Festival is a way for RERIP to promote its mission to keep surfboards out of landfills.
The day was filled with surfing, skating, art, and music. We had a lot of fun skating with the local kids at our booth and seeing two joyful faces walk away with some bamboo products they won in the raffle! If you were not able to make it out this year, make sure to keep your ears and eyes open around this time next year so you can join!
